Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Can GÜRCAN
Board MemberAssoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Can Gürcan serves as a faculty member in the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Nişantaşı University, and he is also a visiting lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Nottingham. In addition, he continues his part-time teaching appointment at Shanghai University. Alongside these academic positions, Gürcan is the Editor-in-Chief of Global Geopolitics, Associate Editor of the Journal of Labor and Society, a Standing Council member of the World Association for Political Economy (WAPE), and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Martyrs’ Memorials Construction Foundation. Dr. Gürcan completed his bachelor’s degree at Koç University, earned his master’s degree from the University of Montreal, and received his PhD from Simon Fraser University. A former recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Joseph-Armand Bombardier Scholarship (Category A), Gürcan was awarded the Albert Szymanski Prize by the American Sociological Association in 2014, the Outstanding Young Scientist (GEBİP) Award by the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2021, and the Distinguished Achievement Award in Political Economy by WAPE in 2023. He is the author of seven books and more than fifty articles in the fields of international political economy, geopolitics, and political sociology.
