Assoc. Prof. Dr Mürsel DOĞRUL
PresidentAssociate Professor Dr Mürsel Doğrul is a faculty member at the National Defence University, specialising in security studies, international relations theory and Asia-Pacific geopolitics. His scholarly work focuses on the decision-making dynamics of Japanese foreign policy, the political economy of Japan’s energy security strategies and the structural dimensions of regional strategic competition. For his master's and doctoral research, he examined Japan’s counterterrorism approach and the political economy of its energy policies. As a postdoctoral researcher at Meiji University and the University of Tokyo in Japan, Dr. Doğrul conducted fieldwork and archival research. Alongside his teaching duties at the National Defence University, he provides expert-level training in security studies, energy policy and global risk analysis at various international institutions. His primary research interests include international security, economic security, critical security studies and science diplomacy. Since 2019, he has represented the Turkish Young Academy on national and international platforms. As a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) International Relations Working Group, he actively contributes to the science diplomacy ecosystem. He also represents Turkey in several global networks, including the International Science Council (ISC), the All European Academies (ALLEA), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Global Young Academy (GYA). He was appointed President of the Turkish Young Academy by the TÜBA Academy Council in November 2025. Dr Doğrul is married with one child and is fluent in English and has an advanced command of Japanese.
