Board MemberAssoc. Prof. Dr. Didem Şen Karaman was born on January 14, 1984, in Bursa. After completing her bachelor’s (2007) and master’s (2010) degrees in the Department of Chemistry at İzmir Institute of Technology, she received her PhD in Physical Chemistry from Åbo Akademi University in 2016. Her doctoral studies focused on the design of theranostic nanocomposites and mesoporous nanosilicas for biomedical applications. With this work, she was awarded the “Best Doctoral Thesis Award” by the Finnish Chemical Society. Between 2016 and 2018, Dr. Şen Karaman carried out her postdoctoral research in pharmaceutical sciences at Åbo Akademi University, where she studied the integration of nanoparticles into various dosage forms, the design of drug delivery systems, and antibacterial applications of nanostructures. In 2018, she joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at İzmir Katip Çelebi University as a faculty member and established the “Nanomedicine and Biomaterials” Research Laboratory, where she continues her work on the biomedical applications of nanostructures. Dr. Şen Karaman has completed more than thirty research projects as principal investigator or researcher and continues to supervise graduate students in her research group. Dr. Şen Karaman, who has over sixty scientific publications at national and international levels, was awarded the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) Scientist Medal in 2022 and received the Turkish Academy of Sciences–Outstanding Young Scientist (TÜBA-GEBİP) Award in 2023.
