Dr. Ahmet Eken was born in 1982 in Aydın. After graduating from Aydın High School as valedictorian, he entered Bilkent University’s Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics as the 311th highest scorer in the national university entrance exam (ÖSS) and graduated in 2005. He completed his PhD in 2011 in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry at Brown University under the supervision of Dr. Jack R. Wands. He then carried out postdoctoral research between 2011 and 2015 in the Department of Immunology at the University of Washington with Dr. Mohamed Oukka. Joining the Department of Medical Biology at Erciyes University in 2014, Dr. Eken became an Associate Professor in Basic Immunology in 2020 and formally received the title of Associate Professor in 2021. Between 2024 and 2026, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine. He is a recipient of the TÜBA-GEBİP Award (2021) and the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award (2024). Dr. Eken’s research focuses on the roles of Treg, Th17, and ILC3 cells in immune regulation. Using mouse models and cellular samples obtained from patients with primary immunodeficiencies, he investigates the mechanisms underlying autoimmunity and chronic inflammation, particularly evaluating new therapeutic candidates in MS models. He also conducts studies aimed at identifying novel genes that influence these immune cell populations. With more than 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Eken’s research has appeared in journals such as Allergy, Mucosal Immunology, Nature Communications, and JCI Insight, and his work has been cited more than 1,200 times. His projects are supported by TÜSEB, TÜBİTAK, ERA-NET, and various scientific organizations. He is a faculty member in the Department of Medical Biology at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine.
