Turkish Young Academy Held Its First Executive Board Meeting
The Turkish Young Academy, which is founded on the TÜBA–Outstanding Young Scientist Awards Program (TÜBA-GEBİP) that has supported a total of 697 scientists since 2001, held its first Executive Board meeting at the TÜBA headquarters in Ankara.
The Young Academy, whose administrative and academic activities are planned under the responsibility of the Academy Presidency, formed its Executive Board to serve for a three-year term in line with the views of the TÜBA Council members. At its first meeting, the Executive Board of the Young Academy also met with members of the TÜBA Academy Council.
In a statement made on behalf of the Executive Board, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mürsel emphasized the importance of enabling young researchers to continue their scientific production within a more institutional structure with strong international representation, stating that the “Turkish Young Academy will continue its efforts to contribute to the production of scientific thought by young scientists, to represent Türkiye on national and international platforms through Science Diplomacy, and to support science policies.”
Drawing attention to the significance of the support provided from the very beginning for the establishment process and the shaping of the institutional structure of the Young Academy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mürsel conveyed his thanks to Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker for his continuous and unwavering support toward establishing a structure compatible with peer young academies worldwide and for strengthening international scientific cooperation.
The first step regarding the Turkish Young Academy was taken at the meeting of the TÜBA Academy Council held on 30 November 2019. With the amendment made on 13 November 2021 to Presidential Decree No. 4 dated 15 July 2018 and numbered 30479, the Turkish Young Academy was officially established.
